TIPS FOR HELPING TO KEEP FIREWOOD PEST OUT OF HOMES DURING THE WINTER MONTHS
During winter months pest not only enter homes through cracks, crevices, plumbing, windows & doorways that lack weather stripping but through firewood.
Some of the pest that can enter homes through firewood & then emerge from under the bark & into the warm environment of your home are spiders, bark scorpions, millipedes, centipedes, cockroaches, carpenter ants, ground beetles & pill bugs are some examples.
Some things you can do to protect you & your home from firewood pest are.
Wear gloves when handling firewood.
Never stack firewood indoors, this includes garages.
Never bring firewood inside until you’re ready to burn it.
Stack firewood off the ground by using firewood racks, bricks or concrete blocks to keep it elevated.
Store firewood at least 5 to 10 ft away from structures & doorways, if possible.
Also, by tarping or covering firewood stacks will help keep excessive moisture out, therefore reducing the amount of insects attracted to the wood.
Finally, by keeping firewood away from structures will also help to detour rodents away from your home
